Description

Pharmacological and medical properties

Substances with tonic antitumor properties were found in the white mushroom. Polysaccharides of white mushroom have shown a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect. For example, polysaccharides A (glucan) and B (glucogalactomannan) have a stabilizing effect on cell membranes and prevent the formation of inflammatory secretions in the lungs. Studies conducted in Poland have shown that the polysaccharides of this mushroom also have a capillary-strengthening effect. The white mushroom contains biogenic amines choline and betaine, as well as herzenin, which is effectively used for angina pectoris. Contrary to popular misconception, in terms of nutrient content, the white mushroom does not differ markedly from other mushrooms, and some forest mushrooms significantly exceed it in terms of protein content (aspen) or food trace elements such as potassium and phosphorus (for example, morels, yellow chanterelle and mokrukh). The exceptional nutritional value of the white mushroom is explained, in addition to its high taste qualities, by its ability to actively stimulate the secretion of digestive juices. The conducted studies of the cocogonal properties of various mushrooms (white, aspen, birch, oak, chanterelle) have shown that it is the white mushroom that is the best digestive stimulant, surpassing even meat broth.
In general, white mushroom and preparations from it have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects, show antisclerotic and antitumor properties, relieve pain in angina pectoris, stimulate immunity and increase the overall tone of the body. They can be used in any form for vascular diseases (thrombophlebitis, thrombosis), coronary heart disease, to increase immune strength and tone after infectious diseases, poisoning and injuries. The use and application of porcini mushrooms is recommended for the prevention of oncological diseases and their relapses after radical treatment. Interestingly, the properties of dried porcini mushrooms as an antidepressant have been confirmed.
Porcini mushrooms are rich in phytohormones. One of them is gibberellin, a growth hormone that has long been used in synthesized form in veterinary medicine, breeding and pharmaceuticals. Cosmetology currently actively uses phytohormones of porcini mushrooms and produces cosmetics that cure baldness, stimulate hair and eyelash growth, and restore the structure of the skin and hair.
At home, extracts, masks and wet compresses from freshly harvested porcini mushrooms are used to care for the skin of the face and hands. Face masks made of pulp pulp of fresh white mushroom restore and rejuvenate withered skin, give elasticity to the skin and improve the complexion. In addition, the porridge of fresh porcini mushrooms, regularly applied to keloid scars and stretch marks after pregnancy, promotes the resorption of scars and smoothes the skin. When the skin is dry, it is recommended to combine the use of preparations of white mushroom with the use of boiled or stewed chanterelles in their own juice, which restore the water balance of the epithelium.

Traditional and folk medicine

Even the ancient Romans highly valued the white mushroom and cooked and consumed it in special rooms-gardens, which were called boletariums . Pliny pointed out that the white mushroom helps with stomach problems and unhealthy skin. Roman women used white mushroom extract for facial skin care, removing acne, rashes, reducing holes after smallpox and rubella, etc.
In some areas of Italy, porcini mushroom is used as a means to increase potency. In Latvia, the use of white mushroom is known as a remedy for stomach pains and angina pectoris and externally – for severe frostbite. In China, porcini mushroom powder is used for muscle relaxation, against cramps, stiffness of tendons, muscle spasms, to improve lymph flow, and from raw fruit bodies baked together with ginseng, a powder is obtained that promotes conception. In Russia, frostbite, ulcers and non-healing wounds were treated with an aqueous extract or powder from fruit bodies. A decoction of porcini mushrooms was effectively used as an anti-inflammatory and regenerating agent for burns and skin inflammations.
